Injury Scenario

Here's a hypothetical situation that involves roster management, injuries and the post-season. Let's say that you're winning your division, and on the last day of the season, all three of the catchers on your roster suffer fifteen game injuries. Since any acquisitions made after the trade deadline are not eligible for the post-season, what would you do in this case? Technically, a team that doesn't have two position players on their roster has to forfeit - what would we do here? It's one for the constitution, I suppose.

PS This is only one of the many reasons I'd like to see the injuries turned off until Strat comes up with a solution to the current problem.

Get more catchers and quit whining.

Do you know where I can get any? And you still didn't answer my question, Mr. Constitution!

Good point brought up by Mr. Mox. I have now firmly pitched my tent in the 'turn off the injuries' camp. However, I feel this new rule should be married to a much lower percentage of allowed AB/IP.

I thought I answered your question very well. If you are worried that injuries will hurt your catcher depth than get more catchers. Also, I don't mind injuries, we all have to deal with them. By turning them off, we lose some of the realism in the game. The .40 factor for ABs/IPs is pretty decent, I would like that to continue and the injuries remain on.

No, you answered my PS very well, even though I disagree with you. You ignored the main post, which was asking what the rule would be if we lost all the players at one position right before the post-season. Joe Emmert thought it would be okay to grab someone out of the waiver pool, but the rule has been that all acquisitions made after the trade deadline would not be eligible for postseason play. I wanted to get a dialogue started about a situational issue in the league. Obviously, it would be a rare occurrence, but that's what a constitution is there for - to clarify what a GM would do in weird situations like that one.

As far as the injury rule, it's something we can discuss at the league meeting, among other stuff. I would prefer to discard the status quo, but I'm open to compromise there.

What happens when a MLB team gets injuries in the playoffs?? They make due. If you have 2 catchers and they both get injured, you play a person out of position. It's pretty simple.

No, MLB teams don't just 'make due' when a player on their post-season roster is injured. They're allowed to replace a player on their roster with any player in their system who has played that position. Remember that amazing run by K-Rod in the 2001 postseason? He wasn't on their post-season roster, but he was able to play in the post-season due to another player's injury.

Of course, we don't have a minor league system to snag replacement players from in the same case. That's why I asked the question, which is, once again, are we allowed to grab a player out of the waiver pool and use them in the postseason or are we up shit's creek and forced to play a 5 our of position.

My guess is that it does not happen very often and if for whatever reason all of players who play a specific position get hurt in a postseason series, I'm not against a waiver pool pickup as a replacement.

This would only mean two things. First, you would have to have used and lost every player with a rating at that position. Second, if this rule is adopted, no manager can have 50 players on his roster because he's raided the waiver pool at the end of their season. We would have to have a freeze on the waiver pool until a specified period of time after the last out of the CLWS. If any player is picked up from the WP as an injury replacement, he goes right back to the waiver pool when he is no longer needed.

Over the offseason, I'd like to see a project where we come up with as many scenarios like this to 'play test' the Constitution so that we eliminate as many unknown variables as possible when it comes to rules and regs. We just came across one item in the Constitution that has conflicting directives. I thought we agreed at the last meeting that 25 man rosters are supposed to be unchanged for an entire series unless a player is injured or is returning from an injury. The Constitution says that a GM can move players up and down from his minor leagues at any time during a series, other than his starters. I've followed the first rule, but other people are under the impression that it's not required to do so. I'll add this to the discussion for the meeting.

I am down with trying to come up with every scenario that could ever possibly happen. The only position that I am ever scared of is catcher, so I went ahead and drafted a couple. The last 2 years I had just Assmyss, and AJ, it never hurt me. And last i checked I have done kind of okay. Maybe we can has out the constitution when we meet, I think I did pretty well with the one I wrote, but I am sure it needs some tweaking.
